Friends let friends sew their arms back on.




Spoilers for my fanfic A Life's Work.








Herbert West sewing the arm of his one true friend, Daniel Cain back on, after a rather unpleasant ordeal with the living corpses and an inhuman man. What friends shall do with each other, it surprises what a feeling of protection Herbert felt in those moments as Daniel staggered and nearly bled himself to death, wrapping his own shirt around what was then a stub and yelling "He took my fucking arm!"

And when the blood was cleaned up and the bodies destroyed, there was silence that fell between the two, as Herbert West found his friend's arm and began to carefully sew it back on. In their silence there was some sort of understanding there, you knew you were Herbert West's friend when he had to sew your arm back on, and you knew you were friends when you had to sew your friend's arm back on. It was something the two appreciated as it went on unspoken.
